ROD REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE

It is always best to keep your existing equipment. If you have rods that need a little attention we can take of these things. Replace broken tip tops, Guides that have been stepped on, frames that have been bent or busted can be replaced. Look down the axis of the rod from the reel seat to the tip and if you see any of the guides that are not lined up correctly, if not this can reduce the distance of your cast and take away the accuracy of your cast. These guides need to be taken off and repositioned on the blank.

In some instances with cork damage this can be can be repaired as well, or replaced.

If you have a favorite rod that needs to be restored, we can completely over haul it from the tip to the butt end of the rod.

Just a couple of hints that might save you some money and down time on your rods.  First most of the tip tops that I have replaced are usually caused by the angler himself by reeling the bait all the way to the top and forcing it into the tip and cracking, chipping or popping the insert out of the tip top.  Therefore when reeling up your bait try to keep about a four inch separation between your bait and tip top and this will eliminate this problem.

The second thing is the insertion or removal of rods from the rod locker.  This is when a lot of damage is done to the guides on the rods.  The guides will hang up on the tubes that the rod slides into or out of and we will force the rod in or out and end up tweaking the guides.  If you take and look at the finish on the wrap of the guides you can usually see excessive wear on the finish from where the rod slides into and out of the tube.

I have removed the tubes from my rod locker and now I use the "Rod Shield" covers.  These covers protect the rods and keep them separated from each other.  They take just a couple of seconds to put or take off, very easy and practical to use.
