REELS

Shimano, Daiwa and Abu Garcia, these are the reels which we service.  The maintenance of your reels becomes critical and is very important. Depending on how much your reels are used will determine the amount of attention that you or someone should service them. If you are fishing competitively in tournaments or just a weekend angler will determine your needs.

Generally speaking your reel should be thoroughly cleaned once a year and every three or four months the bearings that support the spool shaft should be cleaned and relubricated. On the reels that we service they are completely disassembled to the frame cleaned and inspected for worn parts (replace any parts that’s worn).

The old saying of “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” really applies with your reels.  With a periodic inspection and the proper maintenance on your reels could save you some headaches and down time with your equipment if you address these issues before there is a problem or a break down.

The cost of a complete cleaning $20.00-$25.00 (there are some reels that are more intricate than others) plus any parts that need to be replaced.

The replacement of bearings to ABEC 7 $18.00-$24.00 per pair or if you are interested in the CERAMIC bearings $40.00-$50.00 per pair.  To replace the drag washers would be $3.50-$5.00.

REELS THE ULTIMATE PREFORMANCE

This is the part that I enjoy the most, in getting a reel and literally take it to a different level.   I call this the “ULTIMATE TUNE-UP”.   Start by cleaning the reel, and then replace the stock bearings with ABEC 7 or ceramic bearings. Then replace the stock drag washes with carbon fiber washers.

The part that really makes the difference is when we polish the different parts; the pinion gear (the inside where the spool shaft goes through), the spool shafts (except where the bearings rest on the shaft). The brass spacers that are in the cast control cap that the spool shafts ride up against are polished as well. If your reel has a centrifugal brake system then we will polish the brake drum also. Then the drive gear (the back side as well as the front side) and all of drag washers.   What is done is take 1000grit and sand these parts and then use 2000 grit to sand these parts again. After this is done I take a polishing compound and polish these parts to a bright shine. This will reduce most of the friction that is created by these parts that slide or rub against each other. Now what this does is give you the angler more control over your casts. You will get greater distance on your cast, better accuracy on your cast and it will take less energy. Your drag will work smoother giving you the ability to fight and land the fish, and again less fatigue on you at the end of the day.

The cost on this service will vary depending upon which model of reel.
The basic cost of this service is, drag system  $10.00, the casting and brake system $15.00.
